Thomas Jefferson’s words at the founding of our country warned against the perils of a government that seeks to control every aspect of our lives. Before the 2012 election, the Obama campaign ran an ad called "The Life of Julia" which sought to show how the government would "help" a woman through all steps of her life from cradle to grave. When Americans reacted with hostility to this depiction of government intrusion and dependence, the ad was quickly pulled.
The long-held American dream is that you and I are free to live lives of great potential regardless of our beginnings. However, there is a disturbing desire among some in Washington to increase the role of government in our lives, dictate our choices and reduce our freedom.
You and I believe in the American people. Our country is made up of proud, wise and self-reliant individuals who want to be in charge of own lives and destinies. This election is an opportunity to send a message to Washington that Coloradans want to remain free and insist that government stay within the clear and reasonable boundaries set forth in the Constitution.
I am humbled at the prospect of representing the people of Colorado's Second Congressional District. I will work every day to ensure your voice is heard in Congress on the issues that matter most to you.
Together, we can ensure the American dream lives on. I therefore ask for your support and your vote.
